Politicians

I rarely like to talk about politics, since I admittedly know very little about what is going on with politics as a whole. However, I am concerned with the current state of the majority of the American people. The approval rating of President Bush has been steadily dropping in recent months mainly due to the extended operations of the military in Iraq. I agree that, in addition to removing Sadaam Hussein from power (which Bush technically had no more right to do than he had in his first term), the President was trying to secure an oil source. However, there is no difinitive proof to support this claim. What can be supported is that the area was effectively destroyed, and the least that we can do is stay there until the area becomes stable again. Some people are angry that troops are dying, but the fact is that we are technically at war and a certain amount of casualties should be expected. Also, the last time I checked, the entire United States military was still voluntary, which means that every soldier knows that there is a chance of injury or death and accept this chance as part of the job. If the soldiers can accept it, I think that the American public should accept it as well.

I am quite distraught with the recent feelings of the American people with the telephone situation. Initially most people were indifferent to what was going on because the Bush administration apparently was investigating international phone conversations and most Americans don't make international phone calls. But now it has been made known that the government is investigating domestic calls, and that is making people mad. However, as far as we know, all they are doing is looking at records of telephone numbers and are doing nothing with the conversations. I see no problem with this. Also, I seem to remember four years ago a country united behind the idea that anything George Bush does to protect the nation is all right; since what Bush is doing is not causing anyone physical harm, why is everyone so upset?
